This week, The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) celebrates Women in Construction Week (WIC).
While the ratio between men and women working in construction is significantly higher, the gap is narrowing every year. More women are working on job sites and as administrative leaders in the construction industry than ever before. WIC provides us with the opportunity to highlight women as a fundamental part of the construction industry.
FaverGray is thrilled to commemorate Women in Construction Week by introducing you to the impressive, talented, and accomplished women on our FaverGray team!
LESLIE GUNN – VP of Finance & Accounting
As a CPA, I worked for a firm that specialized in construction contractors and their owners. While working there, one of our clients needed immediate help with their payroll and subcontractor payments, because they had let their controller go. I was sent to their office to handle the problems. They offered me the controller position and I accepted. Partly because I already had a strong background in construction accounting, and a working knowledge of construction projects, I knew this would be a good fit for me.
I started with FaverGray just after Jim Gray and Keith Faver named the company. My first assignment was to get the company and record systems set up. Now I work with a lot of wonderful people who continue with my systems. Some of the things that float across my desk are related to insurance and risk, payroll and payroll taxes, human resources, accounting, treasury management, corporate taxes, legal issues, budgeting, IT and software, assets, and financing. I consider it my job to make sure the company runs smoothly and efficiently, within the scope of the law, and to a degree that ensures owners, clients, employees, subcontractors, suppliers, accountants, bankers, attorneys, sureties, and insurance brokers can contribute to and enjoy the company’s success and performance on many levels.
My favorite thing about FaverGray is the owners themselves. The owners respect and admire the people who work for them and it shows in so many ways.
I love to garden, paint abstract landscapes, dance, hike in the mountains, and drive. I like music. I sing and play the piano; I am not good at either. Okay…let’s be honest; I am bad at both. I love visiting my children and grandchildren and bragging about them. They think I am a great artist; I can stay in the lines when I color. I read novels and sometimes dabble in writing. I’m a decent southern chef and baker.
Advice to Women Interested in a Career in Construction:
Construction accounting is a challenging arm of accounting. Unlike what you learn in school, or perhaps despite that, the numbers in construction accounting are not black or white; you must be comfortable with that. There are so many things to know and learn daily; you will not be bored. The industry is still heavily influenced and dominated by men. Don’t let that offend you or discourage you…or distract you. In any career, I advise you to work hard, learn more than you think you need to know, learn some more, then proactively apply your knowledge. Don’t get stuck in a box. And don’t get stuck on the idea that anyone is holding you back; that thought alone will hold you back.
Best Career Lesson:
Figure out a way to get it done. Be creative. Don’t take “no” for an answer.
Don’t be afraid to ask a question, but make sure you know who has the correct answer before you ask. Don’t wait for someone to teach you; go learn it.
KATE HORVATH – Payroll & HR Administrator
I graduated from Adrian College, in Michigan and was introduced to FaverGray after moving to Florida last summer. My professional background started with the entertainment and hospitality industry, I stumbled upon construction by chance and it has been a great career move! I am still learning about the industry, but having lots of fun doing it.
I have been with FaverGray for just over six months! I handle anything related to employee’s paychecks and benefits. This ranges from actually paying the FaverGray team, to health insurance, 401K, taxes, and more.
I enjoy spending days off with my family (my boyfriend Jeff and daughter Isla) usually playing or watching sports. You can also find me watching true crime shows or the Food Network, and I love to cook.
Advice to Women Interested in a Career in Construction:
Even if you feel like you aren’t well-suited for the hardhat fieldwork, there are lots of important jobs in the construction industry that are available! Don’t count yourself out because you are thinking the construction industry is “just for the guys!’
Best Career Lesson:
Accountability and dependability are some of the most important attributes you can bring with you to work every day. It’s unlikely that someone will be perfect all the time, but if you are someone that your team can depend on, that counts for a lot!
AMANDA CHLEBO – Project Accountant
I have been working at FaverGray for 3 years as a Project Accountant for the multifamily/student housing divisions. My favorite project was Parkside at the Beach, which is also a HUD project. I enjoy attending sporting events with my children, cookouts, and boating.
Advice to Women Interested in a Career in Construction:
Go for it and be yourself. There is so much to learn and absorb. Knowing you played an important role in a project that turned “nothing into something” can be a rewarding feeling.
Best Career Lesson:
Communication is key.
PAIGE ROSENBERGER – Director of Marketing
I graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of the Arts in English, Advertising & Global Communications. I have 10 years of marketing experience, but I was completely new to the construction industry when I joined FaverGray back in 2019. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new about the construction industry!
In my role as the Director of Marketing, I create strategic brand awareness and lead generation marketing campaigns to attract prospects and repeat clients. This includes managing our website, writing blogs and press releases, designing email newsletters, developing print and digital media to run in trade media publications, and managing our social media pages. I also represent FaverGray during conferences – and I can’t wait until those are in full swing again!
I’m becoming more involved with our business development, which is both challenging and fulfilling. I’m grateful to be part of an encouraging team and motivated to take my career to the next level with FaverGray!
I enjoy going on adventures with my husband, hiking with our fur babies, trying out new recipes, and BodyPump.
Advice to Women Interested in a Career in Construction:

Be patient with yourself and keep your head up!
HANNAH VALENTI – Project Accountant
I was born and raised in Jacksonville and I graduated from the University of North Florida in 2019 with a degree in Communication/Public Relations. My uncle is a general contractor and inspired me to start a career in construction.
I’ve been working at FaverGray for 4 months as a Project Accountant. I am currently working on Panama Flats, Flamingo Crossings, and FaverGray Residential.
My first project with FaverGray is Panama Flats in Panama City Beach. It is a 320-unit multi-family development that is just kicking off this year. I am excited to be starting a project from the very beginning and seeing the process unfold.
In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, traveling, and spending time with my friends and family.
